How does paint correction work?

November 21, 2017

So, how does paint correction work? Is it the same thing as "buffing"?

Paint correction describes the process of removing paint defects such as swirl marks, scratches, fading, hazing, holograms, and toweling marks using machine polishers.

Paint correction comes in many forms, many detailers offer different types of packages including:

1 step paint corrections, in which the detailer will remove as many defects as possible in a single step while still "finishing" the paint down to a high gloss.

2 step paint correction where a compound is used to level a majority of the defects, but a second step of polishing is required to "finish" and remove any haze created by the compounding step.

Multi-stage correction where many steps of compounding are needed to remove heavy defects, followed by several steps of polishing to achieve a mirror finish. This form of paint correction is usually needed for highly neglected vehicle, or show cars that desire a near perfect surface.

The price of these services vary greatly. At Visual Pro Detailing, we want to be completely transparent regarding the costs and options of paint correction. That is why most of the time, an in person inspection is required in order to find out what level of paint correction would be best for your vehicle.
